I love the Massanutten mountains because they are so close, scenic, and relatively uncrowded. This weekend was no exception. It was a great opportunity to welcome four new backpackers to DC UL: Khanh, Sam, Laura, and Eric.

There’s no way around it -- dropping ~800 feet only to know that you need to reclimb it just plain sucks.
I anticipated steamy, hot temperatures; lots of biting insects and ticks; and plenty of stinging nettles on overgrown trails in (relatively) less frequented areas of the park
