In November and December, we’re featuring our assistant organizers on Instagram and the blog.
Our AOs are the people thinking of trips, writing and posting the trip descriptions on Meetup, planning the route and carpool logistics, and then carrying out the journey, making sure that everyone is prepared and safe. When the hike is over, they’ve probably scoped out a place to grab some grub with friends, new and old.
In this season of gratefulness, we acknowledge our dedicated team of assistant organizers. We’ve asked them a couple of questions, so you can get to know them a little better.
Assistant Organizers, we see what you’re doing out there, and everything that goes on behind the scenes. We appreciate you!
Meet Assistant Organizer Noah, veteran of several winter Caledonia State Park trips, Shenandoah National Park, and Pinnacle Loop, among others.
“My favorite trip is the one I am headed off to or just returning from!”
Favorite trail food: Ramen noodles. They warm you up on a cold day and makes a great base for a trail dinner.
Noah’s Ramen Recipe
- Water goes in pot, add torn up jerky, dried veg, crushed nuts (grab a few from your GORP bag), and flavor packet
- Bring mixture to boil for a minute or two
- Add noodles, cook till soft
- One scoop PB or 1 Justin’s nut butter pack(the maple almond is amazing )
- Top with crushed seaweed snack or cut green onion(optional) and a squirt of sriracha
Favorite trail socks: My feet get hot and have found out that the thinner the sock the better. Been using a pair of Smartwool liner socks lately. They have the added bonus of drying really quickly after a water crossing.

Something to know about me: I have really enjoyed all the time spent hiking with DC UL. Always meet amazing people with great attitudes toward the outdoors. The weather may get crappy but the hikers stay sunny!

Favorite gear: I have a tie dye bandanna that I bought from a hippie in Martha’s Vineyard for my 2009 AT thru hike. It has traveled with me on every hike/adventure for the last 10 years. It is kinda like a “Where’s Waldo” in a lot of pics of me on the trail.
Favorite trip: My favorite trip is the one I am headed off to or just returning from!
Thanks for chatting, Noah. See you on the trail!
