DC UL July Updates

Happy July, backpackers. We’ve entered official summer in D.C. Escape the heat and humidity with us on an upcoming event.

  • Kylie and Karan will share highlights from their year traveling the globe as part of the D.C. Public Library’s “Trips of a Lifetime” series. These talks are often a good time so join us on July 24 — maybe you’ll discover your next dream vacation.
  • Also in the “Trips of a Lifetime” series, Andrew will discuss the recent DC UL trip to the canyons of southern Utah. The photos, if you haven’t seen them on our site, are extraordinary, and Andrew will discuss how to prepare for a trip like this, how it differs from Mid-Atlantic hiking and backpacking, and what additional skills you’d need. His talk will be on August 14.
  • Finally, if you have extra vacation time and are looking for a dream vacation of your own, Michael is hosting a trip to hike the Mansalu Circuit in Nepal this November. Check out the details on the event page.

And, of course, don’t forget about our 10th birthday celebration this August. We’ll be kicking off the festivities this week on our blog, which will feature a series of interviews with members who’ve been with the club since the beginning and those who’ve shaped it into the group we know and love today. Watch for our first post this Wednesday with the man who started it all.

One last note — we have a new PayPal address for paying club dues. If you are a member, you can pay your $10 annual dues here. (Applicants do not have to pay dues.) Dues are used to cover operational fees, such as our Meetup subscription and other online fees, and to support fees and logistics for our annual events. For members, keeping current with your dues enables you to benefit from our gear discounts from our sponsors. Not sure if you’re up to date? Check your member profile to see if there is a (‘19) after your name.
